Legacy Academy at BCHS offers a smaller, personalized communities approach to learning through research-based practices to best serve our students. Beginning with their freshman year, students will build relationships with teachers and administrators, who will then understand what each student needs and become immediately responsive to these needs. Legacy students will be housed by smaller grade-level communities on the BCHS campus.

Teaching and learning will be through a Project Based Learning using a dynamic classroom approach in which students actively explore real-world problems and challenges and acquire a deeper knowledge. As we join our state’s Transform SC initiative to better prepare our students to be college and career-ready, Legacy students strive to not only be proficient in their academic content knowledge, but also possess the necessary soft-skills to be successful in life after high school. Legacy freshmen will become a part of the New Tech Teams model where project-based learning will serve as the primary instructional delivery format in all core courses. Additionally, English 1 and World Geography will be team taught through the course, Humanities 1.

All Legacy Academy students will have one-to-one technology to communicate via our learning management system (LMS), work on PBL’s with group members, access online resources and textbooks and conduct viable research, as well as produce quality presentations via the Echo learning management system.

Legacy Academy students will participate in a variety of academic courses that are offered at personally challenging levels. Academy students are strongly encouraged to explore career opportunities through a multitude of CATE offerings and experience personal expression through visual and performing arts curricula. School community projects and leadership skills will be developed through service learning projects, student government participation, athletics, and a variety of club experiences. The BC Legacy students will discover their passion and forge their legacy through our motto, “Enter to learn, go forth to serve.”
